Today, alongside the launch of Expensify.org, we’re excited to introduce two new ways for any Expensify user to give: Corporate and Personal Karma. If you want to contribute to Expensify.org funds directly – as a company or an individual – these two features make your donations easy and automatic.

Here’s how they work:

  • Corporate Karma calculates the donation based on the total amount of all approved expense reports across all policies owned by the same billing owner. For every $1,000 of approved company expenses, your company will donate $2 to a related Expensify.org fund.

  • Personal Karma calculates the donation based on the total amount of all unreported and reported expenses in a given month. For every $1,000 you spend in expenses, you'll donate $2 to a related Expensify.org fund.

Both Corporate and Personal Karma can be enabled easily from your Inbox

Every month, Expensify will calculate the total amount of all approved expense reports across all policies owned by the same owner for Corporate Karma and will calculate the total amount of all unreported and reported expenses in a given month on the Individual policy.

We'll break down spend into the 5 funds, via MCC Groups (Merchant Category Code group). We calculate which portion of the donations go to which Expensify.org fund mapped to the MCC code.

For Corporate Karma, we will take (($2/1000)/100)= 0.2% of this total amount and charge the payment card on file on the 1st of every month. We’ll also email an Expensify.org receipt to the billing owner, where they can view the breakdown of all of their Corporate Karma donations in the previous month.

For Personal Karma, we will take (($2/1000)/100)= 0.2% of this total amount and charge the user’s payment card on file when billing for user's Monthly Subscriptions runs. We will email an Expensify.org receipt to users, where they can view the breakdown of all of their Personal Karma donations in the previous month.
