How can I auto forward expenses from Gmail

Hi
I would like to apply a filter on my expenses in gmail and auto forward them to [email protected]
However, when I add a forward email in Gmail, it wants to send an email to [email protected] to confirm the address.
I tried that, hoping it would somehow end up in expensify where I could find it, to click on the link.
Do you know of a way I could get this right? Please see attached image.

Hi Sheena
Found another answer which recomended Zapier. Have tried that and it worked. Basics are
1. Create a gmail filter to label those emails as receipts.
2. Create a zapier to read labeled emails
3. Next zapier step is to use gmail send email to [email protected]Annoying to have to use a third party, but it does work painlessly

@shaunenslin -- It's not possible to set up email forwarding between Expensify and Gmail, so sorry about that!

This needs to get fixed. An acceptable solution would be to have the Google code show up as an expense for $0.00 where we can read the code off the "receipt."

I use IFTTT to auto-forward certain gmails to Expensify.
(1) setup a gmail filter for the relevant expenses. I called mine “Expensify”
(2) Through IFTTT set up that all new emails with the relevant filter are forwarded to Expensify.
(3) so far, so good.
Good Luck!

@glglasser trying to do what you did (very cool) but not only new to Expensify, also relatively new to IFTTT - so far the extent of my applet building was to get the Christmas tree lights to go on and off at fixed times!
When I start the applet building process I immediately ran into an issue, when trying to set the condition for emails to be forwarded ("If this") Gmail was not even available as a service.
Can you possibly tell me what to do / how you did it?
Thank you!

@Alastair_M , I think Gmail has turned off most IFTTT functionality, as well as zapier.
I'm looking to see if I can set it up using gmail within Outlook 365, but haven't had the time to set it up yet.

Thanks. Such a perfectly reasonable, useful and sensible thing to be able to do, SUPER annoying Google doesn't allow it!!!

If you are a GSuite Customer, you can configure email routing to forward [email protected] to [email protected] -- confirmed this works as of today. Then you can add [email protected] as a forwarding address without sending a verification code because it's on the same domain. This allows you to use Gmail filters to forward automatically to Expensify.
Add a mapping in the GSuite Admin area here.
N.B. if following this example, be sure to include TLD, so the single recipient to match would be
receipts@<yourdomain.com>
<-- insert your full domain name. -
We have implemented @random_username's solution and it has worked wonderfully! Now I'm trying to see if there is a solution so that we can keep a copy of the forwarded email in the "receipts@yourdomain" mailbox. Will update the thread here if we are successful.
Thank you Random Username!

For the last year, I was using this Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/multi-email-forward-by-cl/baebodhfcfpnmnpnnheadibijemdlmip
Which allows me to batch-forward e-mails..... however in the last few months, Google has been a major proctological pain and keeps disabling my account for "violating the terms of service". And then I keep appealing for the account to be restored, which takes about a month. Got disabled again today but once (if) it's re-enabled, I think I'll try @random_username 's idea.

Could someone please confirm if this still works in December 2021? I set up my GSuite to match this exactly but it is not working for me.

NVM I figured it out. The instructions as provided no longer work. The current procedure is still very similar. Do not use the "Change envelope recipient" field. Instead, scroll further down and use "Also deliver to" field and add [email protected]. Furthermore, you should scroll down to section #3 and check the bullet "Perform this action on non-recognized and recognized addresses"

@mckenziepiping how are you ensuring the "from" address is the one that you have configured in Expensify? (In my case the receipts come from different vendors, and the from address is retained even after setting up routing in google workspace admin.

I tried the solutions proposed here but non will really work.
The main problem is that emails forwarded by gmail will retain the original sender in the "From" field. Thus Expensify has no possibility to actually know that an email forwarded should be routed to your specific Expensify inbox. This is true for the "Forwarding Verification" email containing the verification code as well. These emails are sent from google, not from your personal email.
I did come up with a solution using a combination of filters and an App Script that does the actual forwarding. The solution and setup instructions can be found here: https://github.com/emreberge/gmail-email-forwarding
