How To: Disconnect your personal email (secondary login) from your previous company's account

No longer a part of your company or organization, but need to use that email address to access Expensify?

The steps below will help if you have left your organization but still would like to use Expensify with a personal email address that had been previously added as a secondary login to your work/organization account.

It's possible that you may still be able to log into your past account with no issues, but if your previous organization's Expensify account is using a feature called Domain Control, then you may find you can no longer log in, even though your personal email was linked to it. 

To disconnect:

  1. Go to and enter your personal email address
  2. When prompted for your password, click "Forgot password" (yes, even if you actually remember it!):

3.  Click "Unlink Account" on the following screen:

4. Check your email account and you’ll find an email with the subject “Unlink secondary Expensify login". Click the validation link in that email, which will allow you to reset your password in Expensify. Once this is done, your personal email will no longer be associated with your previous organization's domain.

All historical data should be retained in the account, and you’re all set to go!
