Default Tax by User

I saw that you added Default tax by Category, It would be super helpful to have Default Tax by User for companies with multiple users in different provinces/tax jurisdictions on the same policy. This will save users who don't fall into the default tax rate jurisdiction a ton of time as they won't have to change the tax rate for every single one of their expenses!

Thanks for this suggestion @amaniccia. Canadian taxes are really tricky to automate since they change province to province.

Individuals can currently set a default tax rate to apply to all expenses in their personal Expense Rules instead of the policy default. However this isn't ideal if they are travelling and spending money across multiple provinces.

    Other options available today:

    • Create a policy per province so you can set the policy default to be the province default however this has the same limitation as the personal Expense Rules in that it is less effective when employees are travelling and spending money across multiple provinces
    • Create a copy of each Category for each province then set the provincial tax rate for that expense type. Then the employee only needs to select a Category and the relevant tax will be automatically applied. For example, Hotels - Ontario, Hotels - Alberta, Hotels - British Colombia.

Do you think any of these options could work for you?

If we have a policy per province then we have to pay separately for one user's expenses in multiple provinces, plus there is more admin time related to upkeep of the multiple policies (to capture changes to our chart of accounts, etc)

Second suggestion isn't horrible.. but it would mean increase our categories x12 and clutter it up...

Will default tax rate by user ever be considered? I asked for this in help was was told this is a good idea to mention in Community as it could be selected to be implemented.

Hey @amaniccia, I think you're making a great point here and have a great suggestion. I can't promise that this feature will make it into the product, but if enough customers upvote your suggestion, there's a good chance that we'll add this feature.
