FAQ: I have a monthly subscription, will I still get charged if I don't use any SmartScans?

Answer:

Yes. Unlike Group Policy subscriptions, the Monthly Subscription is paid in advance. The Monthly Subscription isn't activity-based, so you'll be charged no matter how many receipts you SmartScan. That said, there's no limit to the number of receipts you can scan in a given billing cycle!
