A few customers have reached out in the last few days to ask us about our decision to change our homepage to support the Black Lives Matter movement. We wanted to take the time and space to share our thoughts and actions here with our community.

We’re a team of individuals who are deeply dedicated to our values, and one of those values is that we believe in the equitable treatment of everyone regardless of race, gender, age, or sexual orientation. Our homepage is a reflection of us expressing those values and standing in solidarity with our BIPOC teammates and community members. It feels important that we not remain silent during this time.

It would be difficult to explain everything we’ve done and continue to do in one message, but in the past year, we have engaged with a diversity consultant to help enhance our recruiting strategy to actively build relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities while participating and partnering with conferences such as AfroTech, Grace Hopper, and Women Impact Tech. We have extended our job posting platforms to be more inclusive of diverse organizations like the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Women Who Code. We are ensuring the authenticity of our practices by collaborating with local community organizations to be part of our company through celebration of cultural moments and workshops. These organizations include PDX Women in Tech and Here to Stay series - both groups dedicated to creating inclusive and diverse initiatives that develop women into leadership. We also have a zero tolerance policy against discrimination -- not only within our own walls, but with our partners as well.

That said, there’s always more we can do. This past week has been full of tough conversation and internal reflection on what more each and everyone one of us can continue do to increase diversity and inclusion, including but not limited to our hiring, retention, and employee care practices, as well as through our work via expensify.org. We hope that sheds more light on what we are doing behind the scenes to create a more diverse and inclusive environment for our team, our customers, and our communities as well as our continued efforts in pursuing these goals.
