Support heic file format

in Ideas
50 percent of expensify users are iPhone users, yet expensify does not support the iPhone image file format which is heic. Thoughts?

Hi @Expensifyissocialist are you using the iPhone app to SmartScan your receipts? If you have already taken the image with your iPhone you can upload from the gallery. I am an iPhone user myself and have never had issues with adding receipts via the app.

Please try it yourself. HEIC is not supported, and this is an outcry. 50% of smart phone users are iPhone users in the US.

Again, the best method of SmartScanning is in-app.

The fact that the website does not allow upload of HEIC when other websites do and it is the format of every iPhone photo, is an inconvenience. I see the work around is to change my workflow and use the app but supporting HEIC would be a much better solution.

I reached out internally and we do not have any plans to make changes for this now. You're correct that the best path forward is adopting best practices into your workflow for using the app.
If we were to make changes, we'd be sure to announce it in our Product Updates feed. Cheers!
