Welcome to the Community @Shano! Splitting an expense will allow you to create multiple expenses from a single expense or receipt. Each split can be categorized and tagged individually.

Thank you, but it looks like you have to do the split manual, i.e. I can't choose which items on the receipt I want for which categories. Is that right?

@Shano Yes, that is correct. There isn't a way to recognize specific items on a receipt and import those particular items separately.

What is the likelihood that this feature will be added in the future? I used to split up all my expenses from each receipt manually, but with OCR it seems like each item could be captured separately so you could just pick from the list of items on the receipt which ones go in which categories..

I can see where this would be nice sometimes, but for the majority of users, they don't require individual expenses to be categorized uniquely. I don't see this being on any near-term road map.

but for the majority of users, they don't require
Yes, we do require. And no, splitting and itemizing is not the same thing. When I want to split item it means I want to make two receipts from one, when I want itemize the receipt, I just want to add detailed description of items that are in single receipt, but their bank slip must be the same in my accounting.
Look how it is implemented by your competitors at Zoho
when you press this button it analyzes the separate lines of OCR content and suggests you the items of receipt
The only thing that preventing me from switching to Zoho completely is their prices, that are multifold higher than yours. But their feature-set is richer.
