The Expenses page gets a Makeover

We’ve made a few updates to the Expenses page to help with loading speed and to make it easier to find your expenses. 🎉
We've removed infinite scroll, i.e. the loading of expenses as you scroll, and set the Expenses page to always show up to 50 expenses at a time. These updates should make your Expenses page load faster and allow you to once again use the Control+F or Command+F commands to locate that one specific expense from your favorite coffee shop.
When selecting expenses to report or export, you will have the option to either select all expenses on the page or all expenses that match your filters.
But don't worry, when using the Analytics view it will use all expenses that match your filters, not just the first 50 expenses.
Be sure to let us know what you think!

TERRIBLE decision. Instead of fixing the coding, you made it MORE difficult to find and group ALL your transactions.
How do we reverse the 50 transaction limit?
-
Hi @ChrisWallace, thanks for joining the discussion. Can you tell me a bit more about what troubles specifically you're running into right now with the new method? I've love to learn more and relay it to my team.
Regarding reversing the limit, that is not currently possible, so sorry about that.

@Sheena Trepanier, I'm always for the faster page load. I was a little bit confused with the 50 expenses at a time. Once I went out to Expensify and took a look, you can clearly see an arrow in the bottom right corner of the page to see the next 50. This makes perfect sense. I would be all for adding this feature to the reports page as well.
-
I use CTRL+F to find the charge amount and it's not possible to do that when you break the statement into multiple pages. Expensify doesn't always auto-populate the correct vendor name so you can't look for the charge that way half the time.
Please reverse the change. Some of us need the option to see all the charges in one web page.

Hi @ChrisWallace, thanks for circling back to this and chatting with me some more. By making this change you are now able to search all the expenses on the page using ctrl+F, where's before this change you could only search the expenses that were actually visible on the screen, a much smaller list.
The infinite scroll loading blocked the ability of ctrl+F to search further on the page than was visible, but you should now find that it works perfectly to search all expenses that match your current filters.
@tylerzoll nice, I'll make sure to relay that to the team!

The infinite scroll worked great. Now I have train 80+ people to use the ctrl+F, and that a lot of charges may be on the next pages. A huge inconvenience to not only me, but my team now to. You should make it an optional checkbox.
-
My only issue with this change is now I can't roll all expenses into the report at one time. I have to do 50 a time which can be pretty cumbersome. Is there anyway if you use the "Select All" you can truly add all expense to the report, even if they are broken up on different pages, 50 results at a time?
Let me know please!

Hi @Miranda_Collette1! This is a brilliant one actually, so I appreciate you bringing this up. The behavior you describe is indeed how it's working now, but we've already escalated it up and we're taking a closer look at the behavior.
I'll circle back here once my team has had a chance to discuss this and update you!

Appreciate it!

@Sheena Trepanier how can you use Ctrl+F to search through your expenses if there are more than 50 expenses under a specific filter?
Would you consider adding a dollar amount filter? What about filter for type of currency?
-
This is not a benefit to your customers that must provide invoice support to clients where they have over 50 reimbursable expenses.
I need to generate a report (as I have done for the last year) that shows a summary cover page, thumbnails, and receipt detail.
-
With the new format, I seem to be having trouble creating a monthly expense report. Can I get help?
-
Wouldn't a search bar eliminate the need for Ctrl + F function? Ideally, I would like to see a way I can search for reports by report number instead of a name. It would make it a lot easier to reconcile bank statements.
-
@carmenaps, can you tell me a bit more about the trouble you're running into creating a report? Are you receiving any errors at all? If you are, please let me know the steps you're taking leading up to the error message.
@MauraIrizarry -- you can search by report ID now by pressing shift+G from anywhere in your account. Just enter the report ID into the modal and you'll be taken right to the report.
-
@KatieScoular - If your filters apply to more than 50 expenses and you're searching for a single specific expense, I recommend adjusting your filters to narrow the focus and using control+F to search each page.
Typically customers will use the date range filter and the merchant name filter to narrow results when looking for a specific expense, then use control+F to search the expense amount.
Can you tell me a bit more about the expenses you're analyzing or trying to find if the above won't work for your needs?
-
I wish this still allowed for more than 50, huge inconvenience. If I'm reviewing mileage, a filter of 50 doesn't even get me past a day, so it makes it harder to audit information.
-
Thanks @julia, I appreciate you chiming in here. As always I'm working hard to gather everyone's feedback and use cases and present them to my team. I'll let you know what comes of it and circle back with you guys once I know more.

When trying to view all expenses within a certain date range (i.e. 8/30/18-10/1/18) to capture all of Sept., then sorting by ascending amount, it shows once set of expenses... when I sort by descending amount, it's very similar, but shows another set of expenses. Usually, a few in the mid-range are omitted on one but show up on another. I know they're in there, bc I can search for them and locate. Plus, the number of results never changes. It's almost like this is a bug.

It really would have been nice to give people the option to click to load infinite scroll items if they needed to, personally the 50 items a complete pain for me.

@glock339 Thanks for your feedback here! We're always looking to expand functionality to help make processes easier, and this has been noted for future consideration to add to our roadmap.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas, and if you have any other suggestions, feel free to pass them along!

Thanks for the reply & I really hope this will be an option considered for implementation.
