As 2018 comes to a close, the Expensify Community team would like to thank you for a wonderful year and look back on what we accomplished together!

We kicked off 2018 with three major goals: perfect our product, further improve the workflows of our current customers, and create a dedicated space for our ExpensifyApproved! partners. Now that a whole year has come and gone, let's take a moment to assess where we landed.

Perfecting Our Product

From simplifying our notification emails to our new Gusto integration, our changes were designed to maintain the feel of Expensify while enhancing our best features. Let’s take a look at some of our favorites.

SmartScanned receipts merge with credit card transactions

Now, SmartScanned receipts automatically merge with credit card transactions even after they’ve been submitted on a report. No more manual matching, no more double reconciling.

Approval workflow enforcement on the policy level

Policy admins can now restrict policy members to submitting and approving reports based strictly on the policy’s approval workflow, making sure everyone stays on course.

Easy export to Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, MYOB, Oracle and SAP

Our one-click exports to Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, MYOB, Oracle, and SAP mean less manual entry for admins and a more streamlined workflow all around!

Company card personal liability vs. corporate liability

This neat little function lets Domain Admins choose whether or not their cardholders (assigned via Domain Control) should be able to delete transactions from their corporate cards.

Improving the Workflows of Current Customers

We always encourage our users to be vocal about what they want out of Expensify. And my how you’ve spoken! Whether through the Community, Concierge, or an Expensify team member, we’ve received a lot of feedback on what you need from us. Here’s how we’ve turned your feedback into action.

Live webinars

Webinars are a great way to learn about Expensify, get answers to your most burning questions, and even learn new things you didn't think possible. The best part? The webinars are live, so your questions get answered in realtime!

Customizing company card names

Many of our company card users wanted a way to rename their cards in Domain Control. This is especially useful for those who have multiple feeds of the same type (MasterCard, Visa, or Amex). Now, you can customize your feed names for greater clarity.

New expense rules for reimbursable/non-reimbursable expenses

Never accidentally reimburse a non-reimbursable expense again! Users can now force reimbursable/non-reimbursable rules on all cash transactions and separate reimbursable from non-reimbursable expenses on a report.

Attendee tracking

Attendee tracking lets you assign multiple people to one expense – it’s great for attributing expenses like meals across different teams and departments. More accurate record keeping, all from the moment a user enters their receipt.

Creating a Dedicated Space for ExpensifyApproved! Partners

Our ExpensifyApproved! partners – accountants and bookkeepers who use Expensify at their firm or recommend it to their clients – have played an integral role in spreading the word of “Expense reports that don’t suck!” for years. In 2018, we introduced two major updates to keep the ExpensifyApproved! ecosystem growing far into the future.

ExpensifyApproved! University

ExpensifyApproved! University is an educational curriculum for accountants and bookkeepers to learn about Expensify best practices, account setup, client onboarding, and corporate card management. Graduates become members of the ExpensifyApproved! Partner Program with access to discounts, expedited support, marketing opportunities, and more.

ExpensifyApproved! Community

The Community now has a dedicated home for ExpensifyApproved! partners to ask questions and share experiences. You’ll be sure to find some pro tips about using Expensify for your firm and clients here, as well!

There’s still a ton to work on – CSV domain-level uploads is a good example – but we know that 2018 was a step in the right direction. And we couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you!

As always, looking forward to an amazing 2019 with many more improvements to come.

Cheers!
