Could not process template Error Message

I am trying to use the replace built-in call for the template, as I have seen others use it but every time I try to implement it, it gives me an error saying it could not process the template. This is the following field that I am trying to implement the replace call. Is it missing anything else?

${expense.comment?replace("<", "&lt;")}

It will be most helpful if you can copy and paste your entire API call in a response on this thread. Additionally, a screenshot of the error you're receiving.
